Mathieulh and his crew have released their long awaited "free" version of the PS Jailbreak code.

To the dismay of the majority of people waiting for it, though, the team have disabled the ability to install games. If running unsigned homebrew code is your thing, though, grab a Teensy++ USB Development Board or an AT90USBKEY and have fun. Or wait for a "third party" to enable Backup Manager support.

Over the weekend, Sony shared information about next PlayStation 3 system update 3.21 which is deemed to remove 'Install Other OS' support. The PS 3 gaming consoles other than PS 3 Slim had the Install Other OS feature that allowed installing Linux on the HDD of console. Now, with the upcoming update, Sony said it will remove that feature 'due to security concerns'.

Sony Corp. this week said it will release a $200 stand-alone Blu-ray disc player ready to playback 3D titles following a firmware upgrade.

The BDP-S470 via software update will enable playback of 3D Blu-ray titles that will utilize 3D HDTV technology.

The hardware will include Bravia Internet Video, Wireless LAN functionality, and ability to use an iPhone or iPod Touch as a remote control.

The BDP-S470 will be sold this month at U.S. retail.

Although this is Nintendo-centric, it is big enough that it could apply to all systems in time. I just wish I could find someone more reliable than Maxconsole as a source, but most pages link back to there. Take it with a grain of salt.

Having recently broadened the capabilities of its PlayStation 3 console through the integration of Facebook, electronics giant Sony Corp. is now rumoured to be preparing to give online PS3 customers access to Mozilla’s open-source Firefox browser.

3D stereoscopic technology is a major component of Sony's strategy to achieve profitability for the PlayStation 3 -- and the company says the console's planning for a system-wide solution.
